What's wrong with Australian Leadership?Australia is a successful, prosperous and solutions-oriented country. So why are we stuck in a culture of disappointment, confusion and complaint about our leadership—particularly in politics, but also in business and in the community? And how much thought should each of us give to our power of leadership?

Join us for the Melbourne Launch of our new book, The Australian Leadership Paradox, featuring a panel discussion and Q&A presented by the Melbourne Business School and Social Leadership Australia with:

  • Professor Ian Williamson, Director of the Asia Pacific Social Impact Leadership Centre, Melbourne Business School
Professor Williamson's focus is on developing effective partnerships between business schools, not-for-profit, for profit, philanthropic and government entities to address intractable social issues. His research has won several international awards and has been featured in numerous leading media outlets across the world.
  • Tim Costello, AO, CEO, World Vision Australia
Tim Costello is one of Australia’s most sought after voices on social justice issues, leadership and ethics, having spearheaded public debates on gambling, urban poverty, homelessness, reconciliation and substance abuse. He has also been instrumental in ensuring that the issues surrounding global poverty are placed on the national agenda.
  • Liz Skelton, Principal Consultant, Social Leadership Australia, co-author, The Australian Leadership Paradox
Liz Skelton is an experienced leadership development practitioner, thought leader, consultant and teacher of leadership and adaptive change. She has eighteen years experience leading social purpose organisations in Australia and the UK and has led adaptive change initiatives in the business, government and not-for-profit sectors on a range of complex issues including homelessness, drug reform, Indigenous leadership and business/community engagement.

The Australian Leadership Paradox

Based on more than a decade’s experience teaching leadership to thousands of people across all sectors of Australian life, The Australian Leadership Paradox explores the background to Australia’s love-hate relationship with power and authority and shows how our cultural dynamics are holding us back from enjoying more inspiring and effective leadership.

Are we stuck in a leadership rut in Australia?

What would it take to turn things around and grasp the opportunities we have in ‘the lucky country’ in the 21st century?
